TPH is pleased to announce the launch of its thirteenth Center of Excellence at the Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center in Worcester, MA.  With support from TPH-Boston partners ESG Associates and AXE Hockey Group, TPH will bring its Study, Train, Play academy-style model to a second location in Massachusetts.

“We are thrilled to expand our New England footprint to a growing hockey market like the Worcester region, and we are equally as ecstatic to house our next Center of Excellence in a first-class facility like Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center,” TPH CEO Nathan Bowen said.  “Now more than ever, we believe aspiring elite student-athletes are craving a sport, academic and life learning model like the Center of Excellence.  The demand for nontraditional learning, flexibility and individualization and customization both athletically and academically has never been greater.  The CoE model offers just that, and with great partners like ESG and AXE Hockey, we believe we will provide an experience to the many student-athletes in the Worcester region that will exceed their expectations.”

Located roughly thirty miles from TPH’s Wellesley-based Boston Center of Excellence, the TPH-Worcester Center of Excellence will be open to 6^th-12^th grade Tier I and Tier II hockey players who seek TPH’s NCAA accredited, blended academic learning program, its hands-on, player-focused hockey training methods and the mentorship, social and real-world experiences offered within the model.  Student-athletes who attend the TPH-Worcester CoE will train on and off the ice at the Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center, a state-of-the-art multi-purpose facility that opened its doors in 2017, and houses multiple hockey organizations, including the Worcester Railers professional and junior hockey clubs.  The TPH team is in the process of securing an academic space that will offer student-athletes the individualized, customized learning experience that is synonymous with its Study, Train, Play model.

Brian DeVellis, President of ESG Associates, the manager of both the TPH-Worcester and TPH-Boston facilities, believes Worcester is the perfect fit for TPH’s thirteenth Center of Excellence.

“Hockey in the Worcester region is growing fast and bringing a program like the Center of Excellence to the Heart of the Commonwealth will provide youngsters an opportunity to pursue their education and sport goals all at once,” DeVellis said.  “TPH’s model is proven and has been established in New England since August.  TPH will provide Worcester area student-athletes an opportunity to receive an individually tailored, private school education, while developing their skills and growing their character.  To be able to have two Centers of Excellence in two terrific facilities and markets is an all-around win for dedicated student-athletes in our area.”

Speaking of “established,” TPH is also proud to announce that Brian Addesa, the current Director of Hockey-Operations for its Boston Center of Excellence, will be transitioning from his current role in Wellesley, to the Director of Hockey-Operations position in Worcester, at the conclusion of the 2020-2021 school year.  Nathan Bowen believes Addesa’s experience, specifically starting up TPH’s Boston Center of Excellence, will be an asset to the inaugural class at the Worcester CoE.

“Brian Addesa and AXE Hockey Group stepped up this past summer to help us get our Boston CoE off the ground, and it’s no surprise both Brian and AXE are stepping up again,” Bowen said.  “Brian’s knowledge of the CoE model and his experience leading us in Wellesley will help us deliver a quality experience to the families who trust us with their student-athlete’s development in Worcester.  We look forward to supporting Brian in his new role and can absolutely assure the student-athletes presently attending our Boston Center of Excellence, that Brian’s primary focus will continue to be on their athletic, academic and personal development.”

TPH will conduct a national search to identify the next Director for its Boston Center of Excellence sometime after the New Year.  Bowen says TPH will look for a leader who shares Addesa’s passion and can unlock the potential not just within the individuals who attend the CoE, but also future hockey players and athletes from other sports who would thrive in the CoE setting.

“While TPH’s primary vehicle for developing athletes, students and future leaders has been hockey, we are excited about the many possibilities within the Boston Sports Institute in particular, to build partnerships with various sports leaders and extend our model to student-athletes from other sports.  Study, Train, Play is applicable not just to hockey players, but to aspiring elite student-athletes from all different walks of life, who hone their life skills by playing sports other than hockey.  We are very excited about the vast opportunities that await us in both Worcester and Wellesley, as we strive to continue executing our vision of becoming the world leader in positively impacting the lives of student-athletes through sport.”
